Public links
A deliberate decision of the owner, not a technical link lifetime
What it gives you
A public link lives for days and weeks, unlike the short signed links used for display and download. It has its own set of limits: expiry, password, an edit flag and revocation at any moment. With edit rights an external participant opens the editor under a temporary guest identity without creating an account.
How it works
- A link to a single file and a link to a folder with a listing of its contents
- Password and expiry are set at creation and can be changed later
- Revocation is immediate: the link stops opening, the object stays
- Actions taken through a public link are separated from employee actions in the log
Limitations
- Revocation closes the link, but copies already downloaded through it are outside the owner’s control
- Public links are limited by the plan
Which plan includes it
Team
The feature is included in this plan and in every plan above it.
Compare plansFrequently asked questions
Can I set a password and an expiry date?
Yes. Password and expiry are set when the link is created and can be changed later. The link can be revoked at any moment, while the file itself stays in the storage.
Does an external participant need an account?
No. With a link that carries edit rights they open the document in the editor without an A3 account. Their actions are logged separately from employee actions.
What does the recipient of a folder link see?
The folder contents for viewing. The recipient sees the files in the folder and opens them without an A3 account.
